Edison Earth Olympics

One event from last week’s Earth Olympics was the sunshine challenge. We asked students to come up with ways to make their thermometer the hottest. We gave them some materials to work with and they were free to be creative with the resources in the greenhouse. The most successful ways to increase the thermometer’s temperature was to use the foil as a conductor under the sunlamps, or Tiara used her body heat (under her hair) to heat her team’s thermometer!

Ms. Rapp and Ms. Hesson Celebrate The 100th Day of School

Our Hundreth Day of School was based off the story 100th Day Worries by Margery Cuyler. In the story, Jessica is worried that she cannot find 100 things in her house to bring to school. Our students took on this challenge and brought in these wonderful items! Look at all of our collections!

We then took our collections and counted then by 5′s and 10′s.

Students then made 100′s day necklaces with fruit loops. They counted out their fruit loops in groups of 10 to make sure they had enough.

We also made 100′s day hats with 100 stamps! Wow! What a great day we had celebrating the 100th day of school.

How Ms. Rapp’s Class Uses Predicting to Get Excited About Stories

Predicting what they will read about is one of the many important steps of reading in Ms. Rapp’s class. Students learn to read for meaning and want to know if their prediction will be correct at the end of story. Here are some examples of students writing their own predictions before they dive into their text.
